The Amphisbaena, Blanus strauchi (Bedriaga, 1884) is one of the three amphisbaenian species found in Europe and the only one existing in Greece. Like all amphisbaenians, it lives in the soil and retains characteristics of both snake and lizard. It has no end points and has atrophic eyes, covered with skin. According to Greek mythology, Amphisisbaena (amphi + vaino) was a mythological reptile with two heads at its ends.
